Most people think of self-defence as what happens when a situation becomes physical. But staying safe starts much earlier than that.
Everyday Safe Essentials is a valuable three-hour workshop designed to give you a better understanding of personal safety and some simple, useful strategies that can help you recognise potential problems earlier, make safer decisions and respond more effectively if something does go wrong.
Rather than focusing only on physical self-defence techniques, we explore the awareness, judgement and communication skills that can help you avoid, influence or escape a difficult situation before physical intervention becomes necessary.
What Will We Cover?
During the workshop, we'll explore three key areas:
RECOGNISE
Develop greater situational awareness, understand intuition and early warning signs, and learn to recognise behaviours or circumstances that may indicate an increased risk.
REDUCE
Explore practical ways to reduce risk through better decision-making, positioning, boundaries, assertive communication and de-escalation.
RESPOND
Consider what to do when avoidance or de-escalation hasn't worked, including simple and practical physical principles for creating an opportunity to escape and get to safety.
The workshop will include a mixture of discussion, practical exercises and opportunities to explore scenarios in a safe and supportive environment.
Is This A Self-Defence Class?
Yes and no. Actually, we go beyond self-defence.
Physical skills have their place and we will explore some simple options during the workshop. However, we believe the safest confrontation is the one that never happens.
Our priority is helping you develop the awareness, confidence and understanding to recognise and influence situations while more options are still available.
The aim isn't to teach you how to fight. It's to help you become better prepared to keep yourself and those around you safer.
Do I Need Any Previous Experience?
Absolutely not. Everyday Safe Essentials has been designed for everyone and no previous experience is required.
Everything is taught in a friendly, supportive and accessible way, and you can participate at a level that is appropriate for you.
Who Can Attend?
This is a mixed workshop open to adults and teenagers.
Teenagers under 18 are very welcome but must attend alongside a participating parent, guardian or responsible adult.
Parents and teenagers are particularly encouraged to attend together. Personal safety is something that can be discussed, practised and reinforced long after the workshop has finished.
Make A Real Difference
Personal safety isn't about becoming fearful or suspicious of the world around you. It's about becoming better informed, more aware and more confident in the decisions you make.
For just £25 and three hours of your time, Everyday Safe Essentials provides an accessible introduction to practical personal safety skills that can be useful throughout everyday life.
