4-Week Personal Safety & Violence Prevention Course
Sundays | 10:00am – 11:30am
13th Sep, 20th Sep, 27th September 2026
The Senhouse Center, Whitehaven. CA28 7ES
Most acts of violence are preceded by opportunities to recognise, avoid or influence what happens next.
Everyday Safe Essentials is a practical four-week course that helps you identify those opportunities. You'll learn how to recognise warning signs, assess risk, make sound decisions and apply simple, practical strategies that can help keep you and those around you safer.
Rather than concentrating only on physical self-defence, the course takes a wider view of personal safety. Through discussion, practical exercises and realistic scenarios, you'll build the awareness, confidence and practical skills to prevent problems where possible and respond effectively when prevention is no longer an option.
Over the four sessions, we'll explore topics including:
- Situational awareness and recognising early warning signs
- Understanding risk and making safer decisions
- Setting boundaries and communicating with confidence
- De-escalation and conflict management strategies
- Personal safety planning for everyday situations
- The legal principles surrounding self-defence in the UK
- Simple, practical physical skills for emergency situations
- Building confidence through realistic, supportive practice
No previous experience is required, and you don't need a high level of fitness. The course is designed to be accessible, welcoming and suitable for adults of different ages, backgrounds and abilities.
Whether you're looking to improve your own personal safety, support a family member or simply gain practical knowledge and confidence, Everyday Safe Essentials provides a balanced, evidence-informed approach to staying safer in everyday life.
